Comporta Wines

About Us

Comporta Wines was founded in 2015 by Miguel Palma, a wine lover and connected to the business since 1985, with a special connection to the Comporta region.

Over 38 years working with wines, Miguel Palma has acquired extensive experience in the production  and distribution of wines. However, he never stopped dreaming of creating his company that could reflect the essence of the region producing high quality wines that would be appreciated all over the world.

In 2015, Miguel Palma decided to create CW – Comporta Wines. With the help of an experienced and dedicated team, he carefully selected the region’s grapes, creating unique wines that combine tradition with innovation.

“A FAMILY HERITAGE WITH ENTREPRENEURIAL VISION”

Comporta Wines is a modern and dynamic company, but it doesn’t forget its origins and foundation based on family values. Despite the years of history, it has its eyes set on the future.

The quality of our wines, innovation and differentiation, as well as strong ties to the land, are part of our values and guide our path.

“WINE AS A PASSION OF LIFE.”

Wine Region

In total, there are 14 hectares of vineyards (11 hectares or red grapes anda 3 of white grapes) located in Poceirão, in a valley of sandy soils, oriented to the east, which allows sun exposure during practically all day, and where the influence of the region’s particular microclimate, with mild temperature and the warmth of the sun to be tempered by the proximity of the ocean, they provide excellent ripening conditions, which allows to obtain grapes of excellent concentration and balance.

The Vineyard

GRAPE ANTÃO VAZ

The most famous white variety of the Alentejo, with a fine tropical fruit aroma, a mineral quality, good structure, gentle acidity and good ageing potential

GRAPE FERNÃO PIRES

Floral and fruity aroma. The grape is yellowish-green, small, round berries. Produces wines with strong floral aroma, with good acidity and low alcohol content. The wines have a certain structure and complexity.

grape ARINTO

Important for the fresh acidity it brings to white wine blends in a sunny climate, the Arinto produces small grapes and low yields. Its flavours are reminiscent of apple, lemon and lime.

grape SYRAH

The Syrah of Southern France, Shiraz of Australia, this sun-loving grape has adapted well to life in Poceirão, where it makes rich, full-bodied, spicy-fruity, aromatic reds with good colour.

grape ALICANTE BOUSCHET

This red variety arrived from France over 100 years ago and has become a Portuguese star. Its red flesh and color-rich skins give big, dark, tannic, fruity wines, which age well in oak.

grape ARAGONEZ

Aragonez (Tempranillo in Spain, Tinta Roriz in the Douro Valley) makes firm, elegantly fruity, spicy reds that evolve well in oak.

grape CASTELÃO

This dry, sandy country is the heartland of the red Castelão grape (also known as Periquita). Intensely fruity when young, it matures into a cedary character reminiscent of aged Cabernet

“Throughout the year, the vineyard is attentively taken care to give its best.”

The Cellar

The white grapes are gently pressed and, after decanting, ferment in stainless steel vats with strict temperature control.

The red grapes, after being crushed, ferment in stainless steel vats with temperature control for 7 days and normal pumping over.

From the selected wines, we selected the best batches to age in French oak for between 6 and 12 months.
